Soakaway (Drainage)

A subsurface gravel pit system that slows rainwater absorption and helps prevent flooding around villas.

A soakaway is an underground drainage feature, usually a gravel-filled pit or chamber, designed to let stormwater infiltrate the ground gradually.

In Bali’s heavy rain cycles, proper soakaway design helps protect gardens, pathways, and pool surroundings from standing water and erosion.

When reviewing a villa, ask how site drainage is engineered overall—not only where the water “goes” in dry season.
