Rice field view (sawah)

The most requested Ubud feature—but open fields can be built on unless protected or controlled; ask about what protects your view.

A rice field view (sawah) is the top request in many Ubud searches. Marketing photos lean hard on open paddies—but views are not always permanent.

Unless the land in front is in a protected category, under long-term control of the same owner/lessor as the villa, or otherwise unlikely to be built out, tomorrow’s view can be a wall or a new roofline. Always ask about the buffer: who owns the plot you’re looking over, what can be built there under local rules, and whether any agreement restricts height or use.

Pair this with our note on Green Zones: “protected” can be real—or overstated in chat. Verify rather than assume.
