Retaining wall

Engineered wall resisting soil pressure—critical on Ubud’s steep valley plots where monsoon rains increase landslide and erosion risk.

A retaining wall resists lateral soil pressure to hold a slope or terrace in place. Much of Ubud’s prime land sits on ridges, slopes, or above river gorges, where soil loads and water movement are serious engineering topics.

During heavy monsoon rains, weak or poorly drained retaining structures can accelerate erosion or, in worst cases, trigger slope instability. If a listing emphasises views over a gorge, ask about drainage, geotechnical design, and maintenance history—not only aesthetics.
