Penestanan

An artist-focused village just west of central Ubud, loved for atmosphere and expat life but often limited to scooter or foot access.

Penestanan is one of Ubud’s best-known villages, just west of the center. It is famous for its artistic feel, quiet lanes, cafe culture, and strong expat presence.

The northern pocket Penestanan Kaja is especially known for scooter-only paths and a slower creative vibe—writers and long-stay yogis often gravitate there.

The tradeoff is access: many homes are reached through narrow pedestrian or scooter paths rather than full car roads. Confirm last-mile logistics before you assume a listing’s “Penestanan” matches your mobility needs.
