Melasti (ceremonial impact)

Major Hindu purification processions toward the water; in Ubud, Melasti can mean hours of road closure—part of normal life, not an emergency.

Melasti is a Hindu purification ritual featuring large processions to the sea or other water sources. In Bali—and around Ubud—such ceremonies can close roads completely for a period, sometimes for hours, as communities move together in dress and protocol.

For long-term renters and owners, the practical lesson is calendar awareness: your commute, grocery run, or airport timing may need a buffer on big ceremony days. This is usually predictable locally (ask staff or neighbors), not arbitrary “Bali chaos,” but it is part of living in a place where religion and public space overlap.
