IMB / building permit (Izin Mendirikan Bangunan)

A legacy permit regime for built structures in Indonesia. New projects now use different licensing, but older listings still reference IMB history.

IMB (Izin Mendirikan Bangunan) was the traditional building permit in Indonesia. For Bali villas, buyers and long-term renters sometimes still see IMB mentioned in due diligence, especially on older properties.

Regulations have evolved: new construction and significant changes may require permits under updated rules (including PB UMKU / “PBG” style licensing depending on period and local interpretation). What matters in practice is whether the structure on the land is documented in a way your notary and engineer accept for your use case—not only the old three letters “IMB.”

Always verify current paperwork with a qualified notary and, where needed, a structural survey—not only the marketing description.
