Daily life
Canang sari (daily offerings)
Small leaf trays with flowers and incense at gates and paths; part of daily life in villas—treat them with respect.
Canang sari are small, hand-made palm-leaf trays with flowers, rice, and often incense, placed daily at homes, shops, and pathways across Bali. In villas you will usually see staff renew them as part of upkeep and blessing the space.
For residents and guests, the etiquette is simple: avoid stepping on offerings, especially when incense is burning—it reads as disrespect toward neighbors and the banjar community fabric. Step around them; when in doubt, ask staff where foot traffic should go.
Treating offerings as normal background—not clutter—usually correlates with a property that is well integrated locally.
