General
Void
A tall open vertical volume, often above the living room, used to move hot air out and brighten interiors.
An architectural void is a dramatic empty volume—often double-height above the lounge—letting light deep into the plan and giving warm air somewhere to rise away from seating zones.
In Ubud’s hybrid indoor-outdoor homes, that stack effect pairs well with ceiling fans and cross-ventilation so AC does not need to carry every hour of the day.
Acoustics and lighting design need extra thought: sound and heat travel differently when walls do not meet the ceiling plane.
